This exciting opportunity allows you to stay informed on critical issues and champion the interests of current and future students with the Foundation Board of Directors at the University of Washington.

Terms

The Student Representative Director serves in an ex-officio role with full voting rights, holding two consecutive one-year terms. The first term will run from October 2025 to October 2026, with the position being officially elected at the Foundation Board Meeting on Thursday, October 30, 2025. The second year/term is available for optional renewal.

The UW Foundation Board has an outstanding volunteer (unpaid) opportunity for a Student Representative Director. The Student Representative Director stays informed about critical issues impacting the University and champions the interests of current and future UW students and shares priorities with the Foundation Board. This opportunity is open to all eligible persons regardless of race, sex or other identity.

 

About

Founded in 1988, the University of Washington Foundation is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to supporting the mission of the University of Washington. The Foundation facilitates private contributions that benefit UW students, faculty, programs, and facilities, ensuring that gifts are either applied to the general UW fund or directed as specified by donors. The UW Foundation Board partners closely with University Advancement to strengthen relationships and resources that amplify the university’s impact. As part of their responsibilities, all Directors are expected to participate in a New Director Orientation during their first year, attend three Foundation Board meetings annually, and join the Board dinner once a year. Additionally, Directors collaborate with UW Advancement to develop strategies for connecting key supporters to the university, and they exercise limited fiduciary responsibilities, including approving an annual external audit after the Executive Committee reviews it.

 

General responsibilities

  • Attend UW Foundation Board meetings (three times per year)
  • Participate in the annual New Director Orientation + Social in September 2025
  • Serve as a key ambassador for UW students, representing the voices of current, past, and future students to shape the university’s direction and decisions
  • Engage directly in impactful committee work, contributing to projects and initiatives that drive the university’s growth and success
  • Present at Foundation Board meetings and actively participate in high-level discussions, offering your unique student perspective on vital university matters
  • Gain valuable mentorship and professional development opportunities, fostering your leadership skills and expanding your network within the university and beyond
